The quality of the product is crucially important for its further use..
Does, e.g., the product comply with specifications given?
Is the silicon metal to be used in solar technology, for semi-conductors or catalytic converters?
One swift and simple test is X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRFA). But we also use specific dissociations that are then subjected to ICP examination as a control for the XRFA analysis and to determine elements present in trace amounts.
Elemental analysis (combustion analysis) may be used as an additional analysis method for light elements (e.g. nitrogen and hydrogen).
The methods required to analyse inorganic/mineral products depend entirely on the matrix (e.g. the quantity of aluminium in ultrapure silicon metal can only be detected by ICP after appropriate dissociation).
